Francis J. (Chief) Finley Sr. passed away at him home in Evaro on August 28, 2018 of a heart attack. He was the son of Joseph Dixon Finley and Catherine Saxa. He was born on January 16, 1951. He was a proud member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

Chief loved the outdoors. He was a firefighter and crew boss for many years and later on became a driver for the forestry during fire season. He cut firewood for the elderly program for many seasons. He attended college at Missoula Vo. Tech for Truck Driving and culinary. He loved to cook for all family events and just every day. He was also a traditional dancer who loved the pow-wows.

He is survived by his wife Brenda of 43 years, son’s Francis Jr., Joseph (JD), Daughters Stephanie, Sarah (Riston), grandkids Colby, Brandon, Colin, Rhyanne, and Logan and including all the kids he called sons and daughters Leonard Jr., Tia, Max, Duncan, and Damion. His sister Sonia Chippewa Spottedblanket, nieces Genieve (Dustin) and family, Yolanda (Chuck) and family.

Services at St. Ignatius Community Center began August 30, for wake, Rosary on August 31 at 8 p.m. and closing ceremony on September 1 at 10 a.m.
