COLVILLE, WA — Betty Lou Gano, a longtime resident of Colville, Washington, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Betty was born on January 27, 1925 to Charles and Angeline (Morigeau) Layton in Townsend, Montana. She was raised, along with her four siblings, in Arlee and Polson, Montana. At the young age of 18, Betty met and married the love of her life Ellis (Al) Gano. The two met on a Sunday and exchanged wedding vows that Friday! Their love and life together continued for 72 years.
Al and Betty enjoyed a good life. They worked hard, raised two children, traveled, and loved to play golf. Betty and Al were both small aircraft pilots. Betty started a women’s pilot group in East Wenatchee called the “Skylettes”. Al worked for the Forest Service and averaged a move for the family about every four years. The last leg of Al’s career led them to Colville where they settled in, made new and lasting friendships in the community, and later made it their forever home after retirement.
Betty was a remarkable lady. She had a kind heart, a zest for life, and a passion for golf. She had the ability to bring laughter and life to any gathering. She was full of spunk and spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest. Family and friends brought her the greatest joy in life. And it was her role as a caring and supportive mother and grandmother, a loving wife, and a good friend for which she will always be remembered. Betty will be greatly missed, fondly remembered, and forever an important part of the lives she touched.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, and her siblings - Carol, Morris, Charlie, and Nora. Betty leaves behind her son and his family including two grandsons and several great grandchildren; her daughter, Karen, and her son and his family including two great granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family is grateful for the loving and exceptional care given to Betty by the dedicated professionals at the Northeast Washington Medical Group Clinic and Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville.
