FLATHEAD RESERVATION — In 1999, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes invested $150,000 into a startup company called S&K Technologies. The return on that venture has returned almost $40 million. The company CEO, Chat Cottet, was interviewed recently on Montana Public Radio show called, “Can Do: Montana Tribe Builds Global Tech Powerhouse from Scratch.”
In the 27-minute story, you’ll hear that S&K Technologies has grown into a collection of eight companies with 900 plus employees around the United States, including 100 employees in Saudi Arabia. Cottet had served as board chair for seven years before taking over as CEO in 2018. Cottet shares some details on his management style like the importance of surrounding yourself with good people and trusting your staff.
“The folks around you are the ones who will build you up. Make sure they have clear direction and let them go. You can’t do everything. There’s no way for you to know and do everyone's job so don’t try,” Cottet says during the interview.
