ARLEE — Occupational and speech therapists Mina May, Shanna Stack, Chris Stoker, Marisa Thompson and Shawna Buffalo of the Moving Mountains Therapy Center in Missoula and the Arlee School District (Shanna Stack) were recognized for the work they did with Nk̓ʷusm students this year. They provided occupational therapy that focused on development of social- and fine motor-skills needed for better participation in everyday life. The fine motor skills included things such as visual skills needed to better read, writing skills needed for cursive to help students understand how language and writing go hand-in-hand, speech skills to better communicate the written word as well as how learning English language skills are applicable to the Salish language.
