PABLO — In the spirit of the Holiday Season, the Department of Human Resource Development’s Families First Program recently received a gift from out of the blue.
The Families First Program was the beneficiary of a $50,000 donation from the Fresh Life Church, an international non-domination church, with its nearest physical locations in Kalispell, Polson and Missoula. It has locations in 200 cities in 128 countries, and ministers at those locations as well as via the Internet.
Families First Program Manager Pat Matt, Jr. and his wife Marcy McCrea are members of the congregation. According to Matt the Fresh Life Church takes a “new school” approach to religion and embraces the Internet as part of its electronic ministry.
In a phone discussion with Pastor Ronny Killingsworth, Matt said the talk focused on potential monetary donations to worthy entities.
“Families First took a [monetary] hit when the grant was renewed,” Matt said, adding that besides the reduced funds for the program, it was also required to purchase a new computer program entitled Right Tracks for the Families First program. And that was not cheap; it costs $35,000 and is required to keep the program compliant with the funding source. Consequently, Families First could use a bit of monetary help. “They (Fresh Life) offered to give us a $10,000 donation but we needed $47,000 for the budget shortcomings.”
Then Pat and Marcy got COVID-19. That was kind of a beneficial speedbump that slowed down the donation a bit because once Matt was back to work Fresh Life Church ponied up $50,000.
“This has worked out really well for us,” Matt said, adding that he is grateful for the Fresh Life Church donation. “This will be used for supportive services for our cliental.”
Families First Program helps TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients and other low-income families with Child Protection Services, Foster Parent Services for foster parents of tribal children, and Child Care Services.
