RONAN — On Monday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the K. William Harvey Elementary School Commons Area, the City of Ronan is holding a public hearing regarding a re-zoning request by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

The Tribes purchased vacant property west of the Tribes’ Safety of Dams buildings with the vision that the property be used for a new Health and Fitness Center, and someday, a new Longhouse and Community Center. The property was zoned for residential buildings, and the Tribes are asking it to be zoned for mixed commercial and residential use. A Master Plan was developed for the entire property to potentially, someday, also house office buildings and other future uses such as residential buildings. These improvements will bring new jobs to Ronan, potential new revenue to Ronan’s businesses, and a fitness center that will be open to the public.

Please attend the meeting to show support for this effort. The Tribes are requesting the re-zoning as a courtesy because of the intention to hook up to city water and sewer services. The Tribes are willing to pay to upgrade the outdated sewer lift station that serves other nearby properties in addition to Tribal lands.
