Sobriety camp public meeting this Sunday

ARLEE — The tribal and non-tribal public is invited to a sobriety camp informational and organizational meeting 5 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Arlee Powwow Celebration Grounds on Powwow Road.

The 2015 sobriety camp will be a renewal of a similar effort in the late-1980s to mid-1990s.

The organizers are in the initial steps of planning for the sobriety camp that has tentative date for the weekend prior to the 2015 Arlee Powwow Celebration.

“We want people of all ages regardless of race to attend the (informational and organizational) meeting,” said Anna Whiting-Sorrell, Tribal Health and Human Services Director of Operations, Policy and Planning. “We are asking that people bring chairs, beverages and any photos or other memorabilia from past sobriety camps.”

Food and snacks will be provided.

“The dinner and conversation are the first efforts in the build up to the 2015 camp,” said Steven Buffalo, THHS Behavioral Health substance abuse counselor. “We want to establish significant (alcohol- and drug-free) events like this for families.”
