Chris Roberts’ 2015 Powwow and “Powwow Action” calendars released for Arlee’s July Celebration Powwow
MISSOULA — Chris Roberts’ 2015 photo calendars of dancers participating in area powwows will released in time for Arlee’s Celebration Powwow from July 2 to 6. “In addition to my popular Powwow portraits calendar, my new title PowwowAction featuring dancer’s caught up close in dynamic powwow action will be released at the same time. This is my eighteenth year producing powwow calendars,” Missoula photographer Roberts said.
“Whereas the 2015 Powwow calendar showcases portraits of participants on the powwow trail, Powwow Action features dancers in dynamic images capturing the essence of their competitive skills in key moments of these athletic dance contests,” Roberts added.
“These calendars are a good resource for anyone interested in American Indian culture and the traditions of contemporary Indian country. Future generations are encouraged to get involved when they see the richness and pride of Indian culture exhibited in these photographs,” Roberts further commented.
Roberts has been a dancer on the northwest powwow circuit for forty-seven years. He started photographing powwows seriously in the mid-1980s. “I am honored to be a Chicken dancer in the Golden Age category. As a respected elder/dancer I receive recognition for my long time participation in powwows and gain unparalleled photographic access at the events I attend,” Roberts says.
Tide-Mark Press in Connecticut produces and markets the calendars nationally. Missoula’s Meadowlark Media distributes the calendars in Montana and Indian country.
The retail price of both calendars is $14.95 each and can be ordered from Meadowlark Media by calling 888 728-2180 toll-free, emailing email@example.com or mailing the company at PO Box 7218, Missoula, MT 59807. They will also be available in Missoula at Fact and Fiction, Rockin Rudy’s and the UM Bookstore, in Arlee at the Hummingbird, and in Pablo at the People’s Center and the SKC Bookstore.
