CHARLO — Kicking Horse Job Corps is proud to announce that Lucas Okada has been chosen to represent the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps Program, and the United States of America at the Second Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Youth Skills Camp in China. Lucas will be traveling to Beijing May 20-31, 2014.
The APEC Skills Youth Camp is convened by China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Students will participate in workshops within public and community settings geared towards a better understanding of civic participation and the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy.
Lucas Okada entered Kicking Horse Job Corps in November, 2013, from Fort Collins, Colorado. He is studying in the Pharmacy Tech program and has served in several leaderships. Lucas was nominated for this program by the center director, Charles Camel, and his instructor, Tracy Frank. Lucas’s hard work, determination and positive attitude are reflective of a student at Kicking Horse Job Corps and in the Job Corps program.
Lucas will be visiting Beijing, Zhengzhou, and Guangzhou. While in these cities, he will visit vocational training schools, participate in cultural exchanges, and visit local tourist attractions, including the Great Wall of China. Lucas looks forward to sharing stories of his experiences with his fellow students and others.
“Being chosen for this program is another example of how Job Corps can change your life for the better. Coming to Kicking Horse Job Corps is the best decision I have made in my life. I look forward to spending time in China and experiencing a new culture,” says Okada.
