SKCís Medical Office Clerk Certificate adds new course
PABLO ó The Medical Office Clerk Certificate program at SKC has added an Electronic Health Records course to its one-year curriculum. The 46 credit curriculum will become effective Fall of 2013, and will include a 2-credit Electronic Health Records course offered Spring Quarter. The EHR course is an additional course to four other medical office courses required to complete the certificate. The other medical office courses include: HIEP 117 Medical Terminology/A & P (4 cr.), HIEP 121 Medical/Legal Aspects (2 cr.), HIEP 130 Medical Office Billing I (3 cr.), and HIEP 131 Medical Office Billing II (2 cr.).
Along with the medical office courses, this certificate requires courses in general office skills including Records Management/Filing, Word Processing, Electronic Spreadsheets, Business Math, Electronic Calculators, Customer Service, and Office Procedures. In addition, students will complete 50 hours of training through a practicum course, giving them real world experience of working in a healthcare facility.
Students completing the Medical Office Clerk Certificate will be prepared for office positions in Tribal Health, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. These positions are expected to increase both in Montana and nationally.
