SKC hosts MT/ND Tribal College Basketball League Championship this weekend

PABLO — Post season basketball tournaments are not only happening for local high schools but for Salish Kootenai College as well.

SKC Athletics will be hosting the MT/ND Tribal College Basketball League Championships March 1 through 3 at the Joe McDonald Gym.

A few years ago the MT Tribal College Athletic Association was formed to encourage the MT tribal colleges to form basketball teams and a league to play games during basketball season. League organizers felt schools with teams would attract local basketball talent to their schools, retain more students and instill school pride within their institutions as well as the community. It also helped prepare these institutions for their National Tribal College Championships that will be held in Cloquet, MN, March 13 through 17.

Joe McDonald, former SKC President, led the charge in starting the association during his last year as president of the college. This season the involved teams played mainstream colleges and during the last few months have played each other in home and away games.

Teams participating are:
Aaniiih Nakoda College from Harlem
Blackfeet Community College from Browning
Chief Cull Knife College from Lame Deer
Ft Berthold Community College from New Town, ND
Ft Peck College from Ft Peck
Salish Kootenai College
Stone Child College from Box Elder

Admission price is:
   • General - $5 - Friday, $8 - Saturday, $5 - Sunday

Weekend General Admission pass - $15
   • Youth 11 - 17 - $3
