Flathead Basin Commission meeting set for February 13

PABLO — Members of the Flathead Basin Commission (FBC) will hold a meeting on February 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CSKT Tribal Council Chambers.

In the morning, representatives from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will discuss fish management efforts in Flathead Lake, including the status of population trends for bulltrout and potential management actions to improve long-term viability of this species.

The remainder of the morning will focus on FBC administrative matters and an update on transboundary efforts associated with the Crown Managers Partnership and the BC-MT Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The afternoon portion of the meeting will focus on Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS), including but not limited to: AIS bills currently pending in the legislature; preparations for the 2013 field season; and implementation of the Flathead AIS Strategic Plan. The FBC will also review the status of other bills with ramifications for water quality in the Flathead Basin.

The FBC was established by the Montana Legislature in 1983 to “monitor and protect” the water quality of the Flathead River drainage system. All FBC meetings are open to the public.

For more information, contact the FBC at 240-3453.
