Tribal Council takes steps with settlement petition

PABLO — Tribal Council took steps Monday, November 26, to conduct a detailed and legal analysis of a petition regarding the Nez Perce v. Salazar case. Council has directed the legal department to work with the Records and Enrollment department to conduct the following:
1. Verify the enrollment status of each individual who has signed the petition;
2. Establish that each enrolled member who has signed the petition is also an eligible voter;
3. Establish the number of duplicate signatures and/or photocopies of signature pages that may accompany originals.
4. After confirming all qualified signatures, and discounting all disqualified/duplicate signatures, determine the final number of qualified signatures that have been submitted on the petition.

Upon completion, Council will decide what next steps must be taken.
