CSKT Land Consolidation Plan Draft seeks comments
PABLO — The CSKT Tribal Lands Department has been working on a draft plan to seek direct funding from the Cobell Settlement Trust Land Consolidation Fund. Recently, the Tribal Council approved the plan for public review and distribution to our congressional delegates, the BIA, and DOI. On November 6, CSKT mailed the plan, titled the 2012 Land Consolidation Plan for the Purchase of Fractionated Interests in Allotments, to the DOI requesting direct funding from the settlement fund to buy fractionated interests.
This plan outlines the strategy, priorities and action plans for acquiring fractionated trust and fee interests in Flathead Reservation allotments over the next 10 years. The tribes are requesting $1.5 million annually from DOI which, if received, could significantly reduce the total number of fractionated interests over the 10-year period.
