Dr. Jackson Katz presentation set for November 13

PABLO — Dr. Jackson Katz, who is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in gender violence prevention education in schools, sports culture and the military, will give a multi-media presentation entitled More Than a Few Good Men: Strategies for Inspiring Men and Boys to be Allies in Gender Violence Prevention, at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theater on the Salish Kootenai College campus, on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m. A light lunch will be served in the Theater Lobby at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

An educator, author, filmmaker, and social theorist, Katz is co-founder of the multiracial, mixed-gender Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) at Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society. MVP is the most widely utilized sexual and domestic violence prevention program in college and professional athletics. It has been implemented by a quarter of the teams in the NFL, a number of Major League Baseball clubs, NASCAR, and many other sports organizations.

In addition to the SKC event that is open to the public, Dr. Katz will also speak at a Men’s Leadership Breakfast earlier in the morning on Nov. 13. There are a few remaining tickets available for this event; interested men may call DOVES at 883-3350 to see if there are any available spots. There is no charge for the breakfast, but those who plan to attend must contact DOVES for tickets.

The Jackson Katz appearances are sponsored by Verizon, Salish Kootenai College, and DOVES. As a follow-up to Dr. Katz’ visit, DOVES will bring the Mentors in Violence Program to Lake County and the Flathead Indian Reservation.
