From Council: Appreciation goes to staff who worked hard to get settlement payout distributed
The Tribal Council wishes to extend our sincere apology to the tribal membership for the delay, direct-deposit situations, and the delay in responding to questions over the phone. Not to make excuses, however, the Enrollment staff was inundated with many new situations normally not associated with the disbursement of the per capita. Council and the Enrollment staff would also like to express our appreciation to the many members for their patience, kindness, and understanding during this unique and very difficult process. We would also like to thank the other tribal departments (Council staff, IT, and accounting) for stepping in and loaning us some of their staff in assisting us with the posting of the W-9ís, listing of direct deposits, verifying per capita holds and other essential parts in the distribution of the per capita. We canít forget the TEAMS support staff out of Albuquerque, NM, who had to reprogram our distribution program, as problems developed.
Council wants to let the tribal members know this distribution was not an easy task. The amount and the restrictions put into this distribution created the need to reprogram our software in such a short period (12 days). Under normal circumstances reprogramming would need additional time and test runs would be able to detect errors. In this event, we were programming as errors were surfacing and as many of you know, correcting one segment in the program affects the rest of the system. Besides the computer glitches, the staff was required to input all the data off the W-9ís and Direct Deposits. The staff worked weekends and into the evenings to get these tasks finished. Council applauds the staff for their hard work and their willingness to sacrifice many weekends to get the job done and for not totally losing their cool under such extreme pressure.
Council is fully aware that there are still some minor problems with the distribution and we are working hard to accommodate the membership and getting them their monies. We ask that you bear with us and we will make every effort to expedite your funds. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience to the membership if you were part of the few that never received their check. Also, the staff will be returning back to some normalcy, so we can start returning phone calls in a timely manner.
