Kicking Horse Job Corp honors students

CHARLO — August 24 was the 2nd annual Job Corps National Commencement Day.

The Kicking Horse Job Corps Center is one of 125 centers in the country and contributes to the training of over 43,000 currently enrolled students. Job Corps serves American youth 16-24, who are “at promise.” The primary aim is to help the enrollees to become responsible adults, able to obtain and hold productive jobs, return to school, further training, or satisfy Armed Forces’ entrance requirements.

During the program year from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, Kicking Horse Job Corps Center has accumulated many accomplishments: 96 GED certificates were earned, 7 High School Diplomas were earned, and 168 students completed a Career Technical Trade. Of those students who completed the program, 163 students have attained employment, since leaving the center.

“We are marking the Job Corps program’s anniversary with a collective recognition of our students’ success,” states Edna Primrose, National Director of Job Corps. She also states, “…the day represents the culmination of hard work and perseverance of our students, which could not have been achieved without the support and guidance of our dedicated staff. Our graduates should be proud of their accomplishments, and we are certainly extremely proud of them.”

The following students are acknowledge for earning a GED certificate from July 1 through August 21, 2012: Jared Fowler, Troy Brown, Holly Watterson, Jacob Lopez, Stephanie Little Light, Aminah Lewis, Jessica American Horse, Angelica Pena, Chris Whitworth, Tyler Crantz, Tyler Kent, Brittany Charlie, Jonnine Hernandez, Brendan Youpee, De’Autri Green, and Natalie Cannot.

Recognition is also extended to the following students for earning a High School Diploma between June and August 2012: Sarah Melton, Sterling Null, Rachel Guyne, Christian Spencer, and Saundra Moeller.
