Court document concerning recent settlement available
PABLO — Tribal Council has released the 20-page court document regarding the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Settlement. The document lays out agreed upon stipulations that were part of the settlement. The document can be seen on www.charkoosta.com. The settlement money has not yet been sent to CSKT. Further details of the settlement are a matter of a federal court confidentiality order. While CSKT has reached terms with the United States and both parties have signed a settlement agreement, that agreement still must be signed by the judge before any funds are transferred. This has not yet happened. Even after the judge signs this agreement, there may still be a significant amount of information that remains subject to an ongoing confidentiality and protective order from the court. Not all tribes in the litigation have reached a settlement so this could go on for some time. This settlement does not include any individual tribal member IIM accounts and is not a part of the Cobell litigation, which is still ongoing.
