Maintaining your tribal home site promotes safety
An obligation for home site lessees is to keep all tribal property
suitably maintained, including removing debris and any material that
might contribute to a public safety issue, such as a fire danger. As
warm weather continues, fire danger in the area will increase. The
Tribal Lands Department encourages home site occupants to mow their
leased property regularly and to reduce or remove flammable materials.
The Tribal Lands Department has received calls from local fire
and city officials about tribal and individual trust property that
needs to be mowed due to potentially high fire danger. Again, the goal
is to reduce any situation where there is a danger for fire and
possible damaging threats to life or property. Lessees may be receiving a written notice from the Tribal Lands Department encouraging mowing and keeping property safe. During
the month of August, the Tribal Lands Department will be doing a number
of routine home site lease inspections concentrated in the Pablo,
Polson and Ronan areas. If you have questions about this, please give
Tribal Lands a call at 275-2700, extensions 1244 for Willie Birthmark
or 1265 for Holly Hitchcock. The Confederated Salish and
Kootenai Tribes and the Tribal Lands department's goal are to have a
safe summer as families prepare for another school year.
Tribal Lands would like to offer a special thank you to the
many tribal members who work hard to keep their home sites neat and
properly maintained.
