PABLO — All you powwow goers and dancers get into
shape for the current powwow season underway by selecting a moderate to
low-impact workout video called “RezMove™ Native Dance and Cardio
Workout, which is produced by the Community Health and Development
Department at Salish Kootenai College.
The video showcases music from the Chief Cliff
singers of the Kootenai Nation, and native women dancers from the
Flathead Indian Reservation. Native dancers ranging in age from 19 to
50 showcase their Native dancing in full regalia and then exercise gear
as they do aerobics to the beat of the drum.
“RezMove™ Native Dance and Cardio Workout” focuses
on exercise and dance for cardiovascular health and muscle
strengthening. “RezMove™ developed out of CHD is a program designed to
encourage people on the Flathead Indian Reservation to be more
physically active. The “RezRoots™” educational DVD series at CHD
includes “RezMove™” videos and RezChef™” videos. These materials aim to
translate the wisdom of traditional diets and lifestyles into
programming and curriculum materials, which can be used by laypersons,
parents, and educators alike to improve the health status of Native
Peoples.
To purchase “RezMove™ Native Dance and Cardio
Workout,” the price is $15. For more information or to order this video
or any of the others from RezRoots™ please contact project coordinator
and “Native Dance and Cardio Workout” video producer: Naomi
Billedeaux-Meyers at Community Health and Development 275-4919 or by
