Paintin’ the towns red and singin’ the Blues

By Kim Swaney

This weekend there’s going to be trouble. Well, actually it’s not trouble, but it’s Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers who will be here on the reservation and in Missoula and they’ll be paintin’ the towns red and singin’ the Blues.

Farmer, the barrel-chested Cayuga native is known for his outstanding acting roles in Smoke Signals and Powwow Highway, is also a musician and is a vocalist and plays harmonica. Other band members include John Longbow on bass and vocals, Logan Nix on drums and Jaime Bird Yellowhorse on guitar and vocals.

Farmer released his first CD in 2007, “Long Songs and Other Issues”, and his latest release, “Lovesick Blues”, in 2009.

Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers will be dancing to a different tune in Missoula Friday night at the Top Hat Lounge beginning at 7pm.

On Saturday the band will play on at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, beginning at 8pm. There is a $10 cover charge for the concert - well worth the nominal price.

Sunday, The People’s Center will bring Farmer and the Troublemakers to the Two Eagle River School gymnasium instead of at The People’s Center. TPC staff skeptical of the weather decided to move their guests to a warmer location.
