POLSON — The International Migratory Bird Day
poster contest drew
third grade artists from all across the Reservation. Winners were
selected from each of the participating classes. Then entries were
posted at the Tribal Complex for viewing and judging. The ballots were
counted and four students received the Peoples Choice Award.
According
to Stephanie Gillin, Tribal Wildlife Biologist, “There were so many
good entries that the judging was really tough. This year’s theme,
Birds in Culture, was particularly important because the Confederated
Salish and Kootenai Tribes Trumpeter Swan reintroduction project was
highlighted internationally.”

One hundred and sixty-five
posters were submitted from eleven different classrooms.
Polson-Linderman, Pablo, Ronan, St. Ignatius, Nkwusm, Arlee, Dixon and
Hot Springs had classes that participated in the poster contest.
Every
entrant received a prize for participating in the poster contest. All
poster contest winners received a poster, bird identification cards and
a bird identification bandana.
