Suicide intervention workshop set for August
PABLO — The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills workshop will be
held at the Pete Beaverhead Building located on the Salish Kootenai
College campus on August 4 and 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There is no charge for tribal employees, tribal programs, law
enforcement, emergency responders or SKC students. Participants must
show up on time and be present for both days as seating is limited.
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is
designed to teach skills to help caregivers competently and confidently
intervene with an individual at risk of suicide. ASIST prepares
caregivers and helpers from all walks of life to integrate principles
of intervention into everyday practice.
ASIST is divided into four learning modules: attitudes,
knowledge, intervention & resources. Skills and principles are
illustrated with case studies, videos, live dramatizations, simulations
and practice exercises utilizing a Suicide Intervention Model and
workbook.
Upon completion, participants will be better able to reduce
attitudinal barriers that hinder one’s ability to be direct and
comfortable in suicidal situations; dispel myths about suicide;
practice intervention techniques; and develop a collaborative resource
network.
You can be a helper to a serious community health problem. The 14 approved education units are SWP, LAC, OPI, and MLEA.
