Grasshopper Forecast and Control Clinic scheduled

RONAN — A Grasshopper Forecast and Control Clinic has been scheduled for Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m. at the Round Butte Women’s Clubhouse, 7.5 miles west of Ronan on Round Butte Road.

Specialists from USDA APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine Division will conduct a program to assist landowners in Lake County to identify, manage and control grasshoppers through early detection. Possibilities of forming control districts with cooperating landowners will also be presented.

Grasshopper infestation is predicted to be heavy for 2009 in areas with less than 25 inches of annual rainfall, which in most years is the western half of Lake County.

If you would like more information about the April 9 meeting, contact Jack Stivers at the MSU/Lake County Extension Office (676-4271).
