RONAN — Six Kicking Horse Job Corps (KHJC) trainees headed to Layfayette, LA, on Sunday, November 2, to participate in the 2008 Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz. These students, with two staff members, are a part of Chapter Two (A Baby Blitz) in which Job Corps students from across the nation in the Carpentry, Electrical, Painting and Landscaping trades will complete four houses in five weeks.

The KHJC students and staff include (L to R) Justin Klein, carpentry, Browning; Jesse Black Bonnet, carpentry, Sioux Falls, SD; Robert Sherman (residential counselor); Michael Bird-in-Ground, carpentry, Missoula; Craig Ross, carpentry, Ft. Thompson, SD; Lyle Fisher, facilities maintenance, Hot Springs; Patrick Reevis, carpentry, Browning; Albert “J.C.” Courville (carpentry instructor).

These students will prime/paint, install cabinets, trim, shelves, do landscaping, siding and flooring during the week they’re in Louisiana. This building blitz/service learning project will take place in Vermilion Parrish, LA, which is south of Lafayette, more rural and desperately in need of home construction assistance. Job Corps participants will work Monday to Friday and get to meet the families they’re building homes for on Friday and experience Cajun cuisine at a closing celebration.
