Kicking Horse trainees to
participate in Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz

trainees headed to
Layfayette, LA, on Sunday, November 2, to participate in the 2008
Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz. These students, with two staff
members, are a part of Chapter Two (A Baby Blitz) in which Job Corps
students from across the nation in the Carpentry, Electrical, Painting
and Landscaping trades will complete four houses in five weeks.
The
KHJC students and staff include (L to R) Justin Klein, carpentry,
Browning; Jesse Black Bonnet, carpentry, Sioux Falls, SD; Robert
Sherman (residential counselor); Michael Bird-in-Ground, carpentry,
Missoula; Craig Ross, carpentry, Ft. Thompson, SD; Lyle Fisher,
facilities maintenance, Hot Springs; Patrick Reevis, carpentry,
Browning; Albert “J.C.” Courville (carpentry instructor).
These students will prime/paint, install cabinets,
trim,
shelves, do landscaping, siding and flooring during the week they’re in
Louisiana. This building blitz/service learning project will take place
in Vermilion Parrish, LA, which is south of Lafayette, more rural and
desperately in need of home construction assistance. Job Corps
participants will work Monday to Friday and get to meet the families
they’re building homes for on Friday and experience Cajun cuisine at a
closing celebration.
