Arlee murder suicide victims identified
ARLEE — On Monday the Lake County Sheriff’s Department released the
names of the man and woman involved in an apparent murder and suicide
that occurred over the weekend on Dumontier Road just north of Arlee.
The deceased are Arlee-area residents, 36-year-old Dusty Reed
and 48-year-old Janeal Morris. Their bodies were found in a camper
trailer on Dumontier Road at 2:40 a.m. Sunday after a robotic camera
surveyed the interior of the camper trailer and indicated no signs of
life.
According to the press release issued by the Lake County
Sheriffs office: On Oct. 25, at approximately 6:13 p.m. the Lake County
Sheriffs office received several calls of a man that was going to kill
himself in the Arlee area. At 6:32 pm officers arrived in the area of
Dumontier Road north of Arlee.
Officers on scene reported hearing gunshots being fired in
their direction while talking to a witness on Dumontier Road. The shots
were coming from a camper trailer approximately 200 yards away. One
officer from the Flathead Tribal Police was struck in his protective
vest. He was treated at the scene, then sent to the local hospital and
later released. One civilian was also struck with broken glass from the
shots that were fire. He was also treated and released.
Lake County Search and Rescue Team was activated as was
Missoula County SRT and EOD robot team, Missoula City Police, Tribal
Law and Order, and three members of the Kalispell Police SRT along with
their armored personnel vehicle BEAR (Ballistic Engineered Armored
Response Vehicle).
Officers from the St. Ignatius Police Department, Northwest
Drug Task Force, Arlee fire/ambulance, Office of Emergency Services,
and Tribal Fish and Game officers were also on scene to assist.
At 2:40 a.m., entry was made at the residence on Dumontier Road
where teams located one deceased adult male and one deceased adult
female.
The Division of Criminal Investigations was contacted to
conduct the investigation. The decedents were transported to the State
Pathologist Office in Missoula for examination.
