Crime Victim's Advocates hosts events in honor of domestic violence month
PABLO — October is Domestic Violence Awareness
month. The Tribe's Crime Victims Advocates department will be involved
in various activities throughout the month to promote awareness.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate.
The following is a recap of the activities CVA will be involved in for the month of October:
• Unforgotten: Flowers and trees were planted near
the CVA building to signify victims who have passed away due to
domestic violence. Each plant blooms in spring and will be named in
memory of victims. (October 11)
• Colors: Corsages and beaded bracelets were
distributed throughout the community. Colors chosen for the craftwork
hold significant meaning to domestic violence awareness. Participants
were encouraged to wear the crafts throughout the week for support.
(October 15-19)
• Ringing of Bells: Every four minutes someone is
killed due to injuries sustained by domestic violence. Churches
throughout the community will be asked to ring their church bells at 6
p.m. or hold a four-minute moment of silence in memory of those
victims.
• Silhouettes: The CVA created wooden silhouettes
of women that were painted purple (the color of domestic violence
awareness). They will be randomly presenting the silhouettes in schools
throughout the reservation with important information on domestic
violence. (October 22-31)
