Lost Arlee hiker found in Jocko area
ARLEE — Robert Shure, 67, of Arlee left alone on a
hike to Lost Sheep Lake on Wednesday June 13. Along Robert's hike, he
traveled off trail and became lost. After a few hours of no return,
Robert's wife Linda Shure, reported him missing to Lake County dispatch
at approximately 1 or 2 a.m.
With the help of several agencies including Lake County
Search and Rescue, Tribal Game Wardens, Lake County police department,
and Fire Control, Robert was located. According to Pablo Espinoza of
Fish and Wild Life, a Lake County helicopter spotted him in the
beginning of the flight search portion of the rescue at approximately
2:40 P.M on June 14. "The helicopter spotted Robert because he flashed
a mirror in the sun and the helicopter spotted the light," says
Espinoza.
Robert was found a half a mile from the trailhead in the
North Fork Jocko area. A search team, including Robert Mc Crea of Fire
Control, located Robert and found that he sustained an injury on his
leg and was dehydrated. The search team tended to Robert's immediate
needs before a medical helicopter based in Kalispell came for him.
"It was the joint cooperation of all the agencies
involved that made this rescue turn out so well. We're always happy
when we find victims and they're ok," says Espinoza.
