Freedom Day Schedule of
Events
Saturday, May
26:
• Montana State Softball
Tournament at the
Polson Sports Complex - out on Kerr Dam road.
•Glacier Brewery celebrates its
anniversary: Free Beverages available for all veterans. Located about
five blocks below the hospital, just off Main Street.
•Free golf for all veterans at
the Polson
Golf Course.
•Free bowling for all veterans
at the
Sports Page Bowl.
•Participating downtown
merchants will be
offering discounts to veterans.
•Get together for all military,
past and
present as well as the public, at the Polson VFW club from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m. Complimentary appetizers and reduced beverage price for veterans.
Sunday, May
27:
•Morning - free golf and
bowling for
veterans.
•Participating stores offering
discounts
to veterans.
•10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
Transportation from
fairgrounds to Polson, and tours of the Miracle of America Museum;
transportation consists of two trolley cars from Three Dog Down and
other buses by the Polson Schools; the Polson Main Street Museum will
also be open for tours.
•12:30 p.m.: All participants
in the
"Singing Flag" should be present at Riverside Park.
•3 p.m.: "Armed Forces Memorial
Bridge"
dedication: ceremony starts with a cannon blast; 89th Cavalry color
guard to proceed across the bridge on horseback; audience at the park
will be asked to rise and honor the flag and colors; national anthem
sung by Sherry Helm; the Tribal Anthem to be presented by the Tribal
Warrior Society; past military representing all branches of the Armed
Forces dressed in uniform will be at attention and full salute; Freedom
Day Kids from schools all over the Mission Valley to sing the Freedom
Day Song; introduction of dignitaries, talks by dignitaries including
Montana Representative Janna Taylor, who will present certificate to
the Tribes; reading of the monument inscription and unveiling; doves
released to signify peace; military and private aircraft flyovers over
bridge (about 4 p.m.)
•5:45 p.m.: Linderman School -
Sky Divers
Free Fall; drill exercise by the 89th Calvary; (6:15) pre-entertainment
and 7 p.m. Bop- A- Dips Concert; at dark, fireworks display by Jack
Cross.
Memorial Day,
May 28:
•All past and present military
are
encouraged to wear their uniforms on the 27th and 28th of May. Contact
organizers for riding on floats and parade entries, at 883-4358.
•12:30 p.m.: parade starts on
Main
Street, beginning at Elks and ending at Linderman School (more than 100
entries in parade); aircraft flyovers over parade route, including an
F-16 at 12:45 p.m.
•1:30 p.m.: Memorial Day Honors
Program
at Polson cemetery.
•2:45 p.m.: Veterans Honoring
at the
Tribal Complex.
•4 p.m.: Memorial Day Speeches
and
Ceremonies, Linderman School gym - colors presentation; national anthem
sung by Greg Devlin, USAF (Ret); Warriors Society to present flags and
sing the tribal anthem; Invocation; introduction of guests; keynote
speech by Major General Randall D. Mosley, the Adjutant General; Battle
Hymn of the Republic by Polson Band & Choir; speeches and
presentations.
