Former tribal chairman Joseph ãJoe Dogä Felsman died Sunday

Joseph ãJoe Dogä Felsman, a former tribal chairman and war veteran, died Sunday. Flags will be lowered to half mast in honor of his passing.

Felsman had served in the U.S. Navy (corpsman) for nearly 12 years and fought in the Korean War. He was considered the heart and soul as chaplain of the Mission Valley Honor Guard for years. Felsman was elected to tribal council for the St. Ignatius District in 1982 and he served Tribal Chairman from 1984 to 1986. He served on council till 1992. He also served 14 years on the Salish Kootenai Housing Board.

The Rosary is planned for Tuesday with services planned for Wednesday. Tribal employees who attend services will be allowed to take administrative leave.
